Good evening from rainy Aberdeen! I’ve got a couple of great new recipes for you in the coming week, but first of all, here’s five things I love this week.
1. Making a Murderer
I know, I know, I’m like two years behind everyone else with this but I don’t care! I’ve been watching this on Netflix since I dusted off my old account and it’s fair to say I am completely hooked. For anyone who hasn’t watched this Netflix documentary, it’s about a family and namely one man who is framed by US police for someone else’s crime, it’s gripping, and it’s as unbelievable as OJ Simpson’s murder trial! If you need something to watch and haven’t already blitzed through this, I thoroughly recommend that you do.
2. Rye and Soda
This is a gorgeous gem of a restaurant tucked away behind Aberdeen’s old Belmont Street. They specialise in Scottish-based food, serving brunch and dinner at very reasonable prices for the quality they produce. We most often visit here for breakfast, but lunch and dinner visits have been equally as impressive. While the service can be a little slow at times, the quality and portion size of the food more than makes up for it! My absolute favourite are their giant pancakes with smoked Scottish bacon and maple syrup, so wrong but so so so right! You can find a link to their website and menus here.
These have been my snack of choice this week! For something so wholesome, vegan and gluten free these flapjacks are surprisingly satisfying. Crisp and chewy with crunchy seeds and a subtly sweet banana and coconut flavour, it’s hard to believe that these little bars of goodness are actually healthy. They are also wonderfully customisable, you can add dried fruit, extra nuts, chocolate chips or anything you like to them. Basically what I’m saying is: they’re tasty, they’re good for you and you should totally make some.
I found a little jar of this wonderful nut butter in the supermarket recently. While I’m usually a peanut butter girl, dabbling only rarely into almond or cashew butters, this stuff has opened my eyes! Smooth natural cashew butter blended with cinnamon and honey, this is everything creamy, sweet and salty you could ever need in a spread. I love it on porridge, toast, crackers, fruit or just straight off the spoon! It’s a little pricey compared to other brands, but for an occasional treat, I definitely do not mind paying the extra pennies. You can find a link to it here.
I’ve been on the hunt for a really nice matte liquid lipstick that doesn’t break the bank. My usual favourite is Kat Von D’s “Everlasting Liquid Lipstick” but as I live in the UK, the cost of shipping on top of the lipstick can get a little hefty. After trying a few brands, I found Nyx, a US brand that is stocked in Boots in the UK. All their make up is cruelty free, highly pigmented and best of all its wonderfully cheap! The Soft Matte Cream Lipsticks are my current choice, the colours are great and they aren’t too drying. If you’re interested, my favourite shades at the moment are Abu Dhabi, Cannes and Budapest.
Thanks for stopping by, check back in a couple of days for some more easy recipes!
