Triple Chocolate Orange Brownies; rich, dense and fudgy chocolate brownies full of zesty orange flavour and topped with Terry’s Chocolate Orange segments!

Do you have anything that you always think of as synonymous to Christmas, even though there is nothing inherently Christmassy about it?

For me, it’s a Terry’s Chocolate Orange.

Every year, my mum gives them out as gifts for family or friends to go with their Christmas cards. We also tend to have one or two nestled amongst the presents under our tree, just waiting for some greedy fingers to break into them on Boxing Day afternoon.

It’s a strange tradition, as Terry’s Chocolate Oranges are on sale all year round. Somehow, I’m never really as tempted into buying or eating them as I am in the colder months of the year, weird, huh?

As we roll towards the best month of the year, I figured it was about time to whip out an orangey chocolatey recipe. I think it’s safe to say we’re all finally tiring of the pumpkin spice season?

These new Triple Chocolate Orange Brownies are every bit as enticing as they sound. Soft and velvety chocolate brownies, rich with cocoa and zesty orange, studded with chunks of Terry’s Chocolate Orange, nestled under a perfectly crackly top.

A tiny amount of flour, and a generous amount of butter chocolate is what makes these brownies and absolute melt-in-the-mouth delight. Nobody’s got time for cakey brownies. Gimme dat fudge.

Triple Chocolate Orange Brownies are delicious as the dense, fudgy treat that they are, or warmed into a gooey dessert. You should definitely try these out, they are some of the best brownies I’ve ever made, and they went down an absolute storm amongst my ever-hungry co-workers!

To make these epic Triple Chocolate Orange Brownies, you’ll need to start by preheating your oven – 160°C / 140°C fan / 325°F / gas mark 3. The temperature may seem low, but the low-and-slow bake is the key to a perfect brownie that is just set in the centre.

Grease and line a tin to bake the brownies in, both 20x20cm (8x8in) or 20x30cm (8x12in) tins have worked well for me.

Chop up some butter and dark/milk chocolate and melt together gently in a heatproof bowl either in the microwave or over a pan of simmering water until smooth. I tend to use dark chocolate for extra richness, but milk chocolate can add a slightly lighter chocolate taste, with some more sweetness.

While the chocolate and butter melt together, weigh a little flour and cocoa powder into a small bowl.

In a large bowl, whisk together some eggs, an egg yolk, sugar, orange zest and salt until just combined.

Once melted, pour the butter/chocolate mixture into the bowl of egg mixture and whisk to incorporate.

Tip in the flour and cocoa mixture and gently fold together with a spoon or spatula until just combined. You don’t want to stir this too much, as it can lead to flat, chewy brownies!

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared tin, smoothing until the mixture is level.

Place your Chocolate Orange segments on top of the brownie batter in whichever pattern you’d like. I used straight lines, mostly to help me work out how many slices to cut! You want to try and make sure everyone eating a brownie will get a segment.

Bake for 45-55 minutes until the brownies are no longer wobbly and have a nice shiny, crackled top.

Allow to cool for at least 45 minutes before slicing if you can. (This isn’t a quick bake, but it’s so worth it!)

And voila! You have a whole tray full of incredibly sexy Triple Chocolate Orange Brownies. Now all you have to do is decide whether you want to share them or not…
